Features and Benefits:
Scan images to almost any application. Any application that ScanSoft PaperPort has a link to will appear in the destination list giving you unprecedented flexibility for using this button. Here are some recommended uses:
Eliminate tedious retyping of documents. The OCR button scans typed or printed documents and sends them to PaperPortÂ's built-in TextBridge OCR engine, which automatically converts them into editable documents and sends them to your word processor. With OneTouch and TextBridge OCR, you'll never have to retype a text document again.
Stay connected with family and friends. Place a photo on the glass, press the email button and Visioneer's AutoScan technology takes over. OneTouch automatically finds the edges of your picture, performs a high resolution scan then launches your MAPI compliant email application and attaches the image to a new message.
Create a paperless office. The scan button sends documents or images to the PaperPort desktop where you can drag them into folders you create according to your organizational needs. PaperPort is the perfect application for archiving your home or business records. For extra peace of mind, copy your scanned records to removable media such as a Zip disk or CDR disk for storage in a safe place.
PaperPort automatically links to many popular applications. Just drag and drop a scanned image or document on the link of your choice to launch the application and put your images to work. PaperPort even links to your printers and to most email and fax applications.

Great photo printer. Very easy to use. I had it out of the box and printing from my Canon camera in about 10 minutes. I am very happy with the photo resolution. True to life colors also a big plus. Very fast 4+6 print speed, about 10 seconds per print. Lots of options. All in all, a very good little printer. Does a fantastic job with 35mm slides. I especially like the full version of Silverfast that came with the scanner. I would recommend this scanner to any professional or high end ametuer. The scanner works well and its operation is straight forward. It is surprisingly noisy in operation, but this is apparently normal. Be prepared for large files, if you want the hightest resolution digital photos from film. The high resolution of the film scan yields 20 megapixel digital photos from 35mm film. This means a large (50 Mb JPEG) per photo. Not everything needs to be scanned at highest quality. You can adjust the resolution of the scan, or the quality of the output file, to suit your needs. A film camera, coupled with the scanner, yields the hightest resolution digital photos. This means my SLR film camera (which has not been used since I started using digital SLR) will now see service when I want the highest quality photos. The Epson Perfection V700 is a high-quality scanner that does a great job with a variety of input materials. The interchangeable slide and negative holders may seem a bit flimsy, but they have held up well and produce excellent scans--after a bit of practice adjusting various settings. The included OCR software does an amazingly good job converting average quality printed material to text for Word, although I haven't yet tried it with poor quality print. In general, I'm very happy with the scanner and would recommend it to others. Manufacturer Description Product Details Buy the Epson Perfection V700 Photo Color Scanner here!!! Maybe I'm still "starry eyed" from the positive things about this scanner, but so far, I'm very pleased with the scanner. I purchased it from a local store, where the sales rep highly recommended it over other brands. If I had read some of the reviews posted, maybe I'd have thought twice about longevity, but it was worth every penny when my son's school report was lost from my children's computer. Thankfully, we had printed a copy of his report to review, because when it was deleted from his computer, I was able to scan it into the OCR program that came with the Epson 4490 (ABBYY). It quickly and easily converted it into a Word document and he was able to make the changes to his report the night before it was due. I have scanned everything from pictures, negatives and slides- all were done quickly. The automatic image restoration with Adobe Photo Elements has worked just as well as the products description says it will. The few pictures I have restored with it are probably also worth the cost of the whole scanner. I hope it is still working as well in a few months... of course, I'm not planning on heavy use, not scanning thousands of slides. I would think if that is your goal, you should invest in a more expensive unit. But- you never know! Manufacturer Description Product Details Buy the Epson Perfection 4490 Photo Scanner here!!! I have had this printer for about a month. The output is crisp and clean. The over-sized prints I have done (up to 13x19) have all gotten "wows" when they have been displayed. The print quality is the best I have seen in an ink-jet. As others have mentioned, it is hungry for ink, but when you enter a high end printer your gonna pay a premium. You get what you pay for. Ink is still hard to find, but this model is still fairly new. I can almost always get the ink at staples off the shelf. So if your looking for a serious over-sized printer... this is the one. Our family had wanted to replace our Canon i960 with for a MFP but where in no hurry to settle for something we didn't want. Brand loyalty played little part but we decided our next printer had to have: reasonable cost (under $200), duplex printing (to save paper), Ethernet connectivity, and be Windows and Macintosh friendly. "Nice to haves" would be pigment black inks, separate ink wells, and a sheet feeder. With the recent Canon rebate on the Pixma MP970, this printer met all of our criteria and many of the nice to haves. Setting up the printer was very simple with the included Quick Set-up guide. Installing the software on our Windows and Macintosh (OSX) machines took longer than I thought (about 10 minutes per machine) but kudos to Canon for retaining feature parity between the platforms...so many times the Mac software is a pale shadow of the Windows version. I can also set the default printing to duplex and a standard quality on the kids machines (to save paper and ink) and leave it higher on the adults computers. One welcomed surprise was the film/slide scanner hidden under the lid and the ScanGear software works well. (I haven't critically analyzed the scans for dust or scratch removal but if ScanGear can't cut it, I'll purchase VueScan for the enhanced scanning features). We have found scanning pictures across the network a useful feature. The printouts are wonderful. Using heavy-weight glossy paper is easy with the straight-path feeder (this is also where I've feed envelopes, without problem) while regular bond goes in the standard tray. Colors are rich with no banding and the photos from my Pentax K10 have all of the quality of my older Leica generated prints. The whole family has been very happy with the Canon MP970 and we look forward to many years of trouble-free printing! UPDATE - What had been a nice printer is now a frustration. The printer will not print without intervention (jammed paper or printer not recognizing new Canon printer cartridges) and the duplexer will not work. So, we have a feature rich printer with function in about 1/4 the features. Manufacturer Description Product Details Buy the Canon Pixma MP970 Photo All-In-One Inkjet Printer (2181B002) here!!! This is my second personal printer. Previously I used a DELL printer that came with a Dell Inspiron series desktop I got as a gift. That printer was always acting up and I was never really satisfied with it. I bought this printer for approximately $85 including tax around May 2008. I have been very impressed with it, especially comparing it to the Dell I had previously. I cannot compare it to very high end machines because I have never owned one or used one, so take that into consideration while reading this review. (PRINTING) It prints pretty quickly, but it takes several seconds to prepare to print, maybe 10 seconds. So that is a bit of a con but it's not that big of a deal, and if you are printing multiple pages, it only needs that prep time once. However, if you are ust printing out one page, it will take maybe a total of 15 seconds. (SCANNING) Scan quality is very good for my needs. It scans at a resolution far greater than needed for my humble uses, which is just backing up documents or scanning the odd photo. Colors seem fine to me, although I don't have the needs of a professional photographer or anything. (COPYING) Copying works great, I have had to make several copies for friends and family members, and they are always satisfied with the quality, and one friend even remarked he couldn't tell which was the original and which was the copy. I'm sure if he inspected more closely he could tell, but after a quick glance he mentioned this. (FAXING) I rarely fax, and to date I have only had to fax one thing. I had to dig out the manual for this, and after a few minutes of reading and following the instructions, I had my fax sent off in no time, and it went smoothly. I used the ADF (auto document feeder), and it all worked without a hitch. To date I have not had to receive a fax yet, so I really don't know how that will work, but I will cross that bridge when I come to it. The control panel is easy to use and has several ranges of options, including quality, color or black and white, paper options including thickness etc. You can set portrait or landscape, and can apply a couple of different effects to photo's to enhance them. The maintence options are also easy to access and you can clean the printer and align the machine and other things, although I haven't had to do this past the initial setup. I also cannot comment on printing directly from a pictbridge compliant device, like a mobile phone or digital camera, since I have no such devices, but the option is nice to have. I have also used this printer to print envelopes which it does quite well. Another maybe understated "feature" of this machine is the manual, which is clear and easy to understand. it's very comprehensive and walks you through all features of this machine. Given enough time I'm sure most people could figure things out for themselves, but it's nice to have as a reference, as in the example above when I needed to send a fax, it made it very easy. Overall I am very satisfied with this product and I recommend it for people needing a lot of functionality and enough features for users with basic needs. It offers a good value for your money and I haven't encountered any problems yet. I am using this on Windows XP Home 32bit. P.S. I also posted this on Canon's website. I have used many CD/DVD printers over the years, including expensive specialized printers, and this is one of the best. All those comments about limited colors, limited label design, limited fonts, etc. for printing CD/DVDs are wrong. If you use the right grahics package, like Photoshop, you can print anything on a CD or DVD that you can print on a piece of paper - its just round with a hole in it. So, if your CD/DVD printing results are less than spectatular with this printer; don't blame the printer, check your graphics software. I bought this for my wife who was always having trouble with her HP printer. I myself have a Canon Pixma iP6000D and have had great success with it. Strengths: Outstanding text quality, built-in duplexing and automatic document feeder, two paper trays, Mac (Leopard) compatibility Weaknesses: Big and heavy, networking/sharing support could be improved, photo quality not fantastic I purchased the MX850 as a replacement for a similar HP Photosmart 3310 that I had been using for several years with my Mac and Windows PCs. I was generally satisfied with the HP; it included built-in wireless networking and had outstanding photo quality. After upgrading to OS X 10.5 Leopard, however, the HP model was rendered useless for anything other than basic printing on my iMac, even with drivers updated for Leopard. I was very happy, therefore, to find that Canon's MX850 works flawlessly with my iMac running Leopard. The first thing you notice about the MX850 is its size; it's considerably larger and heavier than my HP multifunction printer. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but you'll want to take note of the dimensions and make sure you have room for this device before purchasing. This is likely due to the added functionality Canon has squeezed into the device. It includes an auto duplexer, automatic document feeder, and two paper trays (one at bottom front and one on the back). If you frequently scan multi-page documents, print double-sided materials, or switch between two types/sources of paper, then this machine will undoubtedly prove very convenient. Printer output is very good, with a few caveats. Everyday printing is very speedy, and the text output of the MX850 is fantastic, giving some laser printers a run for their money. There is one caveat pertaining to duplex printing which causes duplex-printed text documents to appear dark gray instead of black. In order to reduce bleeding through on double-sided documents, the printer uses only colored inks (no black) for double-sided printing. If you prefer to print most of your documents using black ink only (which I would recommend in order to conserve the expensive colored inks), know that you won't be able to do so when printing in duplex mode. Unfortunately, the photo quality of the MX850 is not as outstanding as the text quality. It produces nice-looking (even frame-worthy) prints on photo paper, but you won't mistake them for professional prints. This is the one area where the Photosmart beats the MX850 hands-down. The other features of this device also work very well. Scan quality is very good, and the automatic document feeder makes it very easy to scan multiple-page documents. Fax capabilities are built in as well, and I was pleased to note the inclusion of speed dial and a standard telephone-style number pad for inputting numbers. The MX850 also includes network connectivity in the form of an ethernet port, but it would have been nice to see built-in WiFi networking included as well. Even though Canon includes fully-featured drivers for both Windows and Mac OS X, it's not possible to attach the device to a Mac and share it with Windows PCs (I was able to use Bonjour printer sharing and a generic driver to allow my Windows PCs to print to the device, but you don't have the ability to scan or to set or use any advanced device functions such as the duplexer or print quality settings). The MX850 is clearly designed with a home office environment in mind, as its advanced document-handling abilities and unexceptional photo quality suggest. If you're looking for a full-time photo printer, then you should look elsewhere; but if your scanning and printing needs routinely call for excellent text quality, convenient duplexing, scanning multipage documents, and the flexibility offered by two paper trays, then the MX850 will fit the bill perfectly. Couldn't be easier. In minutes you're set to do all the things you wished you could do when these machines cost 10 X as much. Simply press a button for emailing a document/photo; easy pdf's. Intuitive software. Images reproduce just fine. Copies not anywhere near as good as a dedicated copier (in fact, so disappointed with the time it takes and low resolution, I bought the personal copier--just takes up more space but it's instant on and fast) If I had to gripe, it is somewhat slow and the machine is bulky. However, for the price, it is a huge value and it gets a lot of use. Manufacturer Description null null null Product Details Buy the Canon CanoScan 4400F Color Image Scanner (1306B002) here!!!
